The Last Sister by Kendra Elliot
Series: Columbia River Book #1
Twenty years ago Emily Mills’s father was murdered. Emily was the one who found his body, hanging from a tree in her backyard. Her younger sister, Madison, claimed to have been asleep in her room, while her older sister, Tara, claimed to be out with her friends. Not only had the murderers’ hung her father, but they also set fire to their house. That tragedy, led to their mother committing suicide, and for Tara to leave town without a word and no contact for these past twenty years.
The killer was caught, and the case closed.
Life has never been quite the same for Emily and Madison, while each tried to come to terms with what they saw that night. Then a similar murder happened again. Another hanging, a vicious murder of the victim's wife. And who should discover the bodies, again but Emily. These murders brought in the FBI and special agent Zander Wells. Not only was Zander intent on solving the double murder, he is equally intent on solving the mystery of Emily and her sister’s past.
With great action and fully fleshed out characters, Ms. Elliot wrote an exciting and edge-of-the-seat suspense mystery. The main characters were written with passion and purpose and the secondary characters were all central to the story and worked well within the framework of the mystery. Note: I loved the three aunties who had taken in their two nieces after they had been burned out of their home. They and a couple of the other characters added a bit of levity to the seriousness of the crime.
All in all, this was a splendid read by Ms. Elliot who was a first time author for me. I highly recommend this book and hope you all put it on your pre-order list for great reading come January of 2021.
