The Earl Takes A Fancy by Lorraine Heath

Although Fancy Trewlove had been born out of wedlock, it has been her mother and brother’s wishes that she would one day be married to a nobleman. And because of her love for family and their love and faith in Fancy she promised that she would. As the youngest child, Fancy had been sent to finishing school, was highly intelligent and would be a perfect wife if only a gentleman could overlook her lack of a pedigree.

However, Fancy’s plans had quite a wrench thrown in to muckle up even the best-laid plans when an intriguing and enigmatic commoner begins to visit her shop and she finds she simply can’t stop thinking about him.

Though dressed as a commoner, he is anything but! He is a widower who is just a year out of mourning. He is the reclusive Earl of Rosemont, Matthew Sommersby who has been besieged by women hoping to become his next wife. However, his former wife left him with a bad taste in his mouth and an absolute need to eschew society and the false claims of women that only wanted a title.

With Fancy, Matthew had found a refuge away from Society life and a person who seemed very real and refreshing. Fancy’s bookshop and the people she taught to read was a place of peace and quiet plus her love of books matched his own. One night their passion erupts into a kiss that nearly leads to her ruin and Matthew backs away, afraid of what might have happened. And then, of course, there were the misinterpretations of what was said, and what needed to be said!

I have to say that this is one of my favorite types of romances, so very sweet, where minds come together without lust (even if there is lust once they got past the deep friendship). It was one of those books where you close the last page and issue a very deep ahhhhh! Very highly recommended, and deeply emotional – you won't be sorry to get a copy!
